Money bag missing with driver
By RASHITHA A. HAMID
KUALA LUMPUR: A driver with a security company made off with RM500,000 while three of his colleagues went into a bank in Menara Perkeso, Jalan Ampang here to collect money from the ATM machines of a bank yesterday.
Police have identified him as Abdul Jalil Abdullah, 38, who was alone in the van when the incident occurred. He was believed to have grabbed one of the 20 bags of money before fleeing from the scene.
Cheras deputy OCPD Supt Abd Rahim Hamzah Othman said his colleagues lodged a report when they could not find Jalil on their return.
Supt Abd Rahim said the driver’s emergency hatch was ajar while the van’s engine was on.
“The van was locked from the inside and there was no sign of forced entry,” he told reporters.
A check with the security company revealed that Jalil has been working with the company for the past three years.
“We will scrutinise the CCTVs in the building to obtain more information,” he added.
Police will question the three security guards who are in their 30s to facilitate investigation.
Meanwhile, Supt Abd Rahim said a baby girl with her umbilical cord still attached was found abandoned at the Sungai Besi LRT station here yesterday.
The baby, wrapped in a batik cloth was found inside a plastic bag by a man who noticed it behind some shrubs at about 4.20pm.
The 26-year-old man carried the baby to the Pudu police station.
Supt Abd Rahim advised those with information to call RakanCop KL Hotline at 03-21159999 or the nearest police station. |
